Fun Fact: The First Production Corvettes Leave the Factory

On this day in 1953, the first Corvettes entered the automotive world. Not only would they be introduced to car enthusiasts everywhere, but it would also forever change how people view sports cars.

What started out as a simple dream car concept quickly became every car guy’s prospect. Developed by Harley. J. Earl, the Corvette became one of GM’s most iconic and sought-after vehicles in history.

Earl was originally hired to help redesign the LaSalle, and after that sky rocketed sales of the vehicle, he was quickly directed to create and redesign many of Chevrolet’s top selling vehicles.

The Unveiling of the Chevrolet Corvette

In June of 1953, the Corvette was unveiled at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City but was originally meant to be a simple Motorama display. The all-fiberglass vehicle was a convertible with a white exterior and bright red interior.

Despite its incredibly stylish and sleek design, the Corvette’s first sales were dismal. Mostly because amidst its gorgeous exterior, it was outfitted with a mediocre drive train and lacked any kind of performance and power that you’d expect from a sports car.

In 1955, Chevrolet introduced a V8 option for the Corvette, and sales finally took off. In fact, after the V8 model was launched, Corvette then became known as “America’s Sports Car” across North America.

Today, the Chevrolet Corvette still continues to rank highly among its fierce competitors and is constantly being redesigned with forward-thinking features to hold its place in the automotive market. That’s why we always pay the MOST cash for corvettes in Metro Vancouver.
